All-Ages P.U.B. League, April 16th @ CCH (sign-up now!)

That’s right peoples! The Pick-Up Band (PUB) League is finally coming to the all-ages bracket for alllll to take part in.

What’s that? You don’t know what PUB League is? Welllllll….

PUB League is a contest set-up for local musicians, both those IN bands already and those who aren’t or never have been. We collect in between 20-30 musicians, put their names in a hat, and draw out “teams” which each make up respective bands to play for the evening.

Each team gets a chance to meet up during the week of the event and construct a 3-song set that they will perform on Saturday, April 16th. Traditionally a band will play 2 cover songs and 1 original. But we’ve had people do 3 cover songs, 3 originals, or do mash-ups where they put 2-3 cover songs rolled up into one. Then, all the bands come to the College Coffee House where they perform their sets in a contest theatre. They’ll be judged and there will be prizes for most creative originals, best dressed and most of all BEST PUB LEAGUE BAND!

In the bar version of this, we have traditionally had the GOLDEN UKULELE that is given to the victors. We have yet to decide just what is going to be given for the All-Ages version, but mark my words! It’ll be grand!!!!

So if you’d like to sign-up for this wonderful exihibition of music, then please e-mail me (Caleb Kuntz) at:
st.belac@gmail.com

If you don’t want to be in the contest, then simply show up as a spectator on April 16th and enjoy the show…you might even be chosen to be a judge!

The 11.5th All-Ages Great Cover Up! Bands still needed~

click picture to go to facebook event

That’s correct everyone…the one n’ only “Great Cover-up” is going to be having it’s all-ages addition that didn’t happen last year.

Right now…we’re looking for bands to sign up!

Wait? You don’t know what the Great Cover-up is? You poor soul…

The Great Cover-up is a decade+ long tradition in Fairbanks, Ak where local bands around town (or people form a band JUST for this occasion) choose a band to cover and then they prepare a 20-minute set of tunes by the chosen band. Dressing up/acting like the band being covered is FULLY encouraged and always makes for a more fun show.

In the past we’ve had people cover: Nirvana, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, The Avett Bros., Dead Kennedys, The Blues Brothers…etc, etc. It goes on and on.

One of the greatest ideas ever was the FIRST Great Cover-up is 2000. Whiskey Tango covered “The Monkees” but instead of playing their music, they put The Monkees’ lyrics over NOFX music…it was amazing.

SO please, please, please…let us know if you’d like to play the All-Ages Cover-up. Preference & priority is given to bands that DON’T play bars (hence the all-ages), but that’s not to say you shouldn’t sign up if you feel the notion (hence the all-ages, hehe)

ALL PROCEEDS GO TO FUNDING THE LITERACY COUNCIL OF FAIRBANKS!!!
be a part of the magic

The Pub Great Cover-up will be happening on APRIL 2nd!!! (that’s for all you people that are 21+ and want more time)
